Roof renovation

Roof renovation is undertaken when we decide that the old roof can be retained, in terms of construction and appearance, but with the replacement of rafters, battens, caprices and Gigli and/or tiles depending on the covering.

When renovating an old roof it is essential to check the following elements for strength:

the main load-bearing rafters (the so-called popes)
the cross-beams
the sockets (called studs) on which the rafters are stacked
the facing boards ( if any)
waterproofing or tar paper (depending on the roof)
Gigli, tiles, onduline – the final roof covering

After the strength checks, proceed to the replacement of the affected elements. There are many possible causes of their failure, so it is essential to approach them carefully.
